cochlea cross-section
This set of four paintings was commissioned and finished in 2007.  It is known as the "Cochlea Suite".  The paintings were inspired by the work of Dr. Isamu Sando from the University of Pittsburgh.

Each of the paintings depicts an individual  perspective of the cochlea.

I have gallery quality giclee prints of this set available in 12" sq format.

The white rounded shapes are the turns of the cochlea. The hearing nerve is the object that appears to be like a stem to the cochlea.

This painting is the rendering of a scanning electron micrograph image showing the blood supply to the cochlea.

Yet another view of the cochlea...Cut on a horizontal plane, this view shows some nerve fibers as well as outer hair cells.

Shown as "v's" are the outer hair cells and standing along the ridge is the inner row of hair cells of the organ of corti.
